[Book Review] The White Tiger

0

"The White Tiger " by Aravind Adiga is a widely acclaimed book as it had won The Man Booker Prize of 2008. I came across this book as a part of my assignment on topic 'Picaresque Novels'. I was half - forced to read this novel in this beautiful era where technology let's you know the entire plot with just a click of my hand but I decided to forget the 'assignment' part and I concentrated on finishing the book purely without the so called technological external help.

The whole book is a letter to the Chinese Premier from Munna alias Balram Halwai alias the White Tiger. The letter tells the story of how Balram Halwai, a halwa maker becomes an entrepreneur. Munna murders his humane master and betrays him by stealing money meant for corrupt politicians and escapes to Bangalore to start a new life.
Being a Man Booker Prize winner, I expected a lot from this book but it was missing some noteworthy logic. Aravind Adiga was not entirely a failure because he brought in some social issues like corruption and casteism which still plague the society inside out. The book compares India both positively and negatively with other countries. The author brings out the two sides of India - the side which is growing to compete with superpowers and the other side which is still corrupted and sagging without any growth. 'The White Tiger' succeeds in exposing the ordinary life of a low class citizen who is trapped in a corrupted and growing country.

[Product Review] Gorgeous phone case for Xperia M

0

It's been almost an year since I bought my Xperia M. I am completely satisfied with my phone and I had to say that eventhough there is no relevance of that information with what this whole blog post concerns. So I better come to the point.
Recently I bought a new phone case for my Xperia M. I got it through online shopping from Snapdeal. Most of my online shopping usually ends up either in Flipkart or in Amazon. So you must be thinking how did I end up in Snapdeal?
Well... That's exactly what I need to tell you. If you are looking for phone cases with specific designs or interests then it is necessary that you check out more online shopping sites. Broaden your search. That's the only way I think. I don't know whether there are any sites that provide customised phone cases.
So I wanted a phone case which had like different things or ideas in one. I searched and searched and finally ended up in Snapdeal and look what I found...
Video Tronix cute magic wallet case cover pouch for Sony Xperia M.
The appearance is quite enchanting actually. The writings and pictures look cute and is targeted for girls. It's available in 4 different colours. The phone case which is inside is quite flexible and thus the phone stays on strongly and snuggly in it. Due to its flexibility, the camera and volume button works smoothly. The power button is a bit tricky, only just a little. You will get used to it. The charging can be done when the cover is open and you don't have to remove the phone from its case. Usage of phone, camera and music can be done even if the cover is closed. There is a small wallet inside. Overall I loved its beauty and usage. The only problem that I found is that it's a bit costly. 500 rupees is a large amount of money spent for phone cases. I hope that the product has its quality worth for its money. I loved it anyway...

[Movie Review] The Hundred Foot Journey

0

Where to start? is my real question. Well this film is what you call a recipe for disaster. "The Hundred Foot Journey" is a comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallstrom which has been adapted from the book of the same name written by Richard C Morais.

The story is about a boy named Hassan and his family who emigrated to France from Mumbai. They decided to open a restaurant with Indian cuisine but found themselves face to face with (hundred foot away from) a starred French restaurant run by Madame Mallory who is stubborn in her own ways to have the best restaurant in the town. Hassan's acquaintance with Marguerite, a sous chef from Mallory's restaurant and his keen sense of learning takes him to exciting levels in the cuisine world.

The movie was a total waste of time. The dialogues were pitiful and sometimes irritating. When Hassan's dad says, "Brakes break for a reason", I was like what the heck is wrong with the man. Honestly, I felt like slapping the script writer when similar dialogues followed. The romance between Hassan and Marguerite was horrible. Marguerite was consumed with jealously almost till the last twenty minutes or so and after that it was 'voila' everything's okay with them. With all the French elegance and Indian tradition, I thought the film was going to be atleast beautiful but the only thing that kept me through the whole two hours was the food, the spicy savoury Indian food. Bon voyage...
